road diet

From "Cheltenham Avenue Corridor Study"

Go to the project

We should think about the future of our region and the vision for it, and how we will need to get around. Now is the time to prioritize non-car travel.

For crossing the street, you need curb extensions to reduce the distance pedestrians and cyclists need to travel to cross the street. You should put medians with green space so you can find refuge when crossing the road. The metric for any decision maker should be, would I feel safe letting my 10 year old cross without supervision, and would I feel save if my mother in a wheel chair over the age of 70 would feel safe crossing. If the answer is no, then the crossing is not safe enough.

We should create an off road multi use trail along the whole corridor, thinking about people actually using the trail to get places. Car lanes should be reduced.

Advocacy should go into significantly increasing the percent spent on public transit and pedestrian and cycling travel, and significantly reducing the percent spent on roads. We need at least 50% of the transit budget to go to public transit.
