Roundabout or other improvement such as all-way stop.

From "Map Your Ideas for Montco"

Go to the project

The intersection of Stenton Avenue and West Mill Road often gets congested and left turning traffic can block through movements when it does. Installing a roundabout at this location would help the flow of traffic better and make it much safer. Making a left here can also be dangerous due to the blind nature of this curve. If a roundabout is not suitable then an all-way stop should be considered.

Hi Scott, thank you for the additional transportation comment. This is a helpful example of how congestion, turning movements, and visibility can all affect the safety of an intersection. A left turn that blocks through traffic can create delay, but the blind curve you noted is the more important safety concern. Roundabouts can be effective in the right location because they can slow vehicles, reduce conflict points, and keep traffic moving more steadily. They are not suitable everywhere, though, and factors such as sight distance, traffic volumes, available right-of-way, pedestrian crossings, grades, and nearby driveways all matter. If a roundabout is not appropriate here, an all-way stop or other traffic-control change would also need to be evaluated based on the specific conditions at the intersection.

This intersection is particularly dangerous for cyclists heading south on Stenton. First the shoulder disappears as you cross the Wissahickon on the stone bridge and then the curve in Stenton prevents you from seeing oncoming traffic as you attempt to turn left on Mill Road while going uphill. I agree that a roundabout or an all-way stop would improve safety.
