In corporate commercial opportunities into Park Plan

William Jackson•5 months ago I am a frequent user of the SRT between Audubon and Conshohocken. It would be great if this park idea included the possibility for at least one or more commercial locations for restaurant/food/drink vendors. When I ride the trail with people who are not serious bikers, they often need to stop and rest between Conshy and Valley Forge Park. Just like Conshy has commercial spaces right along the trail for food/drink business, it would be great if there were places for pop-up/foodtruck vendors along the Norristown stretch of trail. Rent from these commercial spaces could be designated for the upkeep/development of this proposed linear park.

Sell it off to a developer so it can be demolished.

William Jackson•1 year ago Please read the report on the structure. It is in such poor condition, not all of it could be accessed. It is full of hazardous materials. Major demolition of the interior structure would need to be completed to make it re-useable. Even the parking lot was called out having remanent structures underneath which would need to be renewed. The county and Norristown has other priorities which need to be considered over "repurposing" this structure in any way. Not everything can be saved. The dollars already spent and will be spent trying to come up with ideas for this property are wasted. The county already has the building down on the SRT which our tax dollars paid to fix up and it not being used. I would encourage the county elected officials and government solve for properties they already have. Otherwise you are just throwing good tax dollars after bad,

Sell the property - it's too far gone

William Jackson•1 year ago Please do not spend one more dollar trying to find something to do with this prison property. The report says it all, the building is so deteriorated parts of it could not be safely accessed. It is full of asbestos and would require extensive changes and removal of the jail structure to do anything with the building. Even the parking area was noted to have issues requiring extensive work. You just raised our taxes. The county and Norristown has issues with homelessness and other issues which better deserve any additional tax dollar which might be spent on this project. You have a building in Norristown down on the bike trail which was bought and upgraded over two years ago and it still sits empty. If this jail property has any worth, sell it to a private developer with some assurances, if it is turned into hosing, some of it is designated as affordable housing.
