This phase collected information on the walking and biking environment in the borough. It included two audits: a walk audit and a bike audit.

WALK AUDIT

Measuring streetscape characteristics on Broad StreetWhites Road

The audit assessed conditions and characteristics of sidewalks, verges, crosswalks, accessibility features, pedestrian signalization, pedestrian clearance, and the presence of trees, on-street parking, and related elements.

MCPC and borough staff walked selected streets, recording data about the pedestrian network in the borough. This included an evaluation of both sides of selected street intersections, and an evaluation of intersections along the route. The focus area for the walk audit was Main Street, Broad Street, and the eastern section of Whites Road.

BIKE AUDIT

This 5-minute video shows us riding the pre-selected route around the borough to observe, discuss, and note bicycling and bike safety issues and opportunities.

During the bike audit, we recorded data on audit forms for (1) pre-selected intersections and (2) street segments (blocks). Audit participants from the Active Transportation Plan Steering Committee met at Whites Road Park to review our plan before beginning our ride.
